D I S C I P L E S H I P 13 it is the God of grace, mercy, power, and might who saves the sin- ner. The job of the discipler is to proclaim the responsibilities of the disciple and guide them through the process. It is the God of grace, mercy, power, and might who produces growth in the dis- ciple’s life. That being the case, prayer is essential to the process. The discipler must be praying for the disciple, and all people of the Church must be praying for both discipler and disciple. “And this is the confidence we have toward him, that if we ask any- thing according to his will he hears us. And if we know that if he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him” (1 John 5:14–15). If we know that the maturing of disciples is God’s will, and we commit to that task, earnestly asking for His help, then we should have confidence that He will affirmatively answer those requests.
