16  J I M TAY L O R that Jesus is the Son of God (John 8:24), repentance (Luke 13:3, 5), the confession of sin (1 John 1:9), and being baptized by im- mersion for the forgiveness of sin (Acts 2:38; 8:32–39; 22:16). It is amazing that the grace of God allowed the death of just one Man to forgive Adam’s trespass, as well as the other men who had sinned in the Old Testament era, long before Jesus had actually died on the cross. All forgiveness comes only from the cross of Jesus (John 14:6). But the power of the cross was in effect in the mind of God before he created the world, and it was certainly in effect before Adam sinned. Peter said that Jesus becoming the Son of God and dying on his cross was in the mind of God before the foundation of the world when he wrote these words: And if ye call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to each man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning in fear: knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers; but with precious blood, as of a lamb without spot, even the blood of Christ: who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the end of times for your sake. (1 Peter 1:17–20) Paul also wrote about the time when the salvation of the world took place in the mind of God in the following verses: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ: even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in love.
